The CVRA's effort to promote winegrowing sustainability in Alentejo has led to recognition of the WASP from several entities in recent years. These entities that distinguished us with awards, were not only regional, but also national and international.
WASP VOTED BEST JOINT INITIATIVE IN THE WORLD WINE SECTOR
The Wines of Alentejo Sustainability Programme (WASP) has been distinguished at the V d'Or 2024 awards in the 'Best Joint Initiative' category, which highlights the Alentejo region's programme as the best joint initiative in the world wine sector.

The Wines of Alentejo Sustainability Program (WASP) was, this Monday, the date on which the World Environment Day was marked, distinguished in the Green Awards, an initiative of the magazine Visão, in partnership with the group Águas de Portugal, which aims to award individual people, companies and organizations that stand out in Portugal in the area of the environment.
Wines of Alentejo Sustainability Program (WASP) was distinguished at the IRGAwards, a Deloitte initiative that rewards the performance of entrepreneurs and companies for more than three decades and which, this year, made its debut a new “Sustainability Initiative Award” category, which was awarded to the sustainable initiative of the Alentejo Regional Winegrowing Commission (CVRA).
WASP was honoured in December 2020, with the Amorim Sustainability Award for an Association. What particularly impressed the judges, was the rapid growth in the number of member wineries recruited during the past 12 months, as well as the impact the association has had on their environmental footprint, with energy consumption reduced by 30%, and water use by 20%.
In March 2020, the VINHO Grandes Escolhas magazine awarded the WASP with the Initiative of the Year Award.
In February 2020, the WASP was awarded ‘Best of the Year’ in the Innovation / Research category by the Revista de Vinhos magazine, during the “Best of the Year 2019” gala.
In December 2019, the WASP received the title of 2019 European Rural Innovation Ambassador from the LIAISON project. This European Innovation Partnership for Agricultural Productivity and Sustainability launched in 2012 by the European Commission, promotes the best European projects in terms of innovation in agriculture and forestry in rural areas. The contest received more than 200 entries from 13 countries. LIAISON considered that due to the innovative and inspiring nature of the WASP, it was one of the best examples of “working in partnership for innovation” from all over Europe. Watch video
In July 2019, the WASP was one of the winners at the European Enterprise Promotion Awards (EEPA), an initiative of the European Commission aligned with the priorities of the Europe 2020 strategy, which aims to recognise good practices for promoting entrepreneurship in Europe.
In March 2019, the WASP was recognised by the Empresa de Desenvolvimento e Infra-Estruturas do Alqueva, SA (Development and Infrastructure Company of Alqueva, SA) (EDIA), during the “Mais Alqueva, Mais Valor” Awards, as the winner of the “+ UTILIZATION” category. This EDIA initiative promotes and recognises initiatives for the efficient use of water and other resources in a sustainable manner.
The Wines of Alentejo Sustainability Programme received the ““Investimento que marca” (“Exceptional Investment”) award from Vida Rural magazine at the AgroIN Congress in 2018.
